The Experience

I still remember the way the candle smoke curled in the chilly air outside the Fatima Sanctuary — there was this hush, even with all the people around. On the drive back to Lisbon I watched sunlight flicker through eucalyptus trees and tried to put words to why Fátima felt so different from other places I’ve been.
