The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Lisbon hotel and a drive south to Évora, a city whose entire old town is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. You'll walk through the historic center on foot, passing the Roman Temple, the Cathedral and the Chapel of Bones: each one a different layer of the city's history. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese or French, so you can follow comfortably in your own language, and the private format means you set the pace and ask what interests you most.
After the monuments, you head to Cartuxa, a working winery where the tasting happens. This is not a museum visit: you taste three wines selected by the foundation that runs the cellar, moving through different varieties. Reds like Aragonês, Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional, plus whites and rosés from the Alentejo region. The tasting is built as a journey through the different grape varieties and terroirs, so you learn how the soil and climate shape what's in the glass. The winery can arrange food pairings with local Alentejo dishes if you want them, though lunch itself is separate from the tour price.
The tour runs nine and a half hours total, with the drive, the walking, the tasting and the return to Lisbon all included. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with WiFi and bottled water on board, and all insurance is covered. Because this is a private tour (just your group and your guide), you can linger at any stop or ask the guide to explain something twice. Cellar availability is limited, so book as far ahead as you can.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
What exactly is the Chapel of Bones in Évora?
Capela dos Ossos is a 16th-century chapel in the Franciscan convent, decorated with the bones and skulls of thousands of people: a memento mori built into the walls and ceiling. It's one of the most distinctive stops in the old town.
Do I need to buy tickets to the monuments separately?
Yes. Entry to the monuments is not included in the tour price, so you pay for them on the day or arrange them in advance. The guide can help you decide which ones to visit based on your interests.
What happens if the winery is fully booked when I want to go?
Cellar availability is limited and the tour is subject to the winery's schedule, so booking in advance is essential. If your preferred date is not available, the operator can suggest an alternative or work with you to find another date.
Is lunch included in the tour?
Lunch is not included in the tour price. You can eat in Évora's old town during a break, or the winery can arrange food pairings with the wines if you want them. That's an extra cost you choose at checkout.
