The Experience

The morning starts with pickup at your Porto accommodation and a drive into the Douro Valley, a UNESCO Heritage Site in northern Portugal. The route includes stops at emblematic points—the Portuguese Centre of Photography among them—where you can step out and frame the valley before moving on. By mid-morning you'll reach Pinhão, where a private luxury boat waits to take your group downriver.

The cruise itself is the centerpiece: a charming passage along the Douro with the vineyard-terraced banks rising on both sides. The boat carries you to the pier of whichever winery you selected at booking—Quinta do Carmo, Quinta do Crasto, or Quinta Ventozelo—each an award-winning producer. Once ashore, you'll walk through the cellar, taste the wines made there, and sit down to a lunch designed to pair with them. Coffee or tea follows.

After lunch, you board the boat again for the return journey to Pinhão, this time with drinks on board as the landscape passes. From the pier, the drive back to Porto includes another panoramic stretch of the valley before you're dropped at your hotel.
