The experience

The tour starts in Warsaw Old Town and moves through the sites where the city's occupation and resistance took shape. You'll see the Warsaw Uprising Monument, a sculpture capturing the powerful uprising of men during World War II, and the monument to Polish Jews in the area of the former Warsaw Jewish Ghetto, where more than 450,000 people were forced to live in 2.4 percent of the city's land. The guide walks you through the assembly point where German soldiers led captured Jews during the suppression of the Ghetto Uprising, and you'll visit the Warsaw Uprising Museum, a tribute to those who fought and died for Poland's independence, with exhibits on both the fighting and everyday life under occupation.

The 4-hour option extends the tour to Powązki Military Cemetery, one of Warsaw's most moving sites. Public transport tickets are included to get there. The cemetery is well-tended and serves as the final resting place for soldiers who fell in World War I and World War II, with endless stone and wooden crosses marking graves. You'll also see the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, a massive tribute in a square with a park behind it. The guide provides expert commentary on the events and people of the war throughout both versions of the tour.

Pickup is available from your hotel or accommodation in Warsaw Old Town. If your address is more than 1.5 km away or you don't provide one, the guide meets you at the Warsaw Mermaid statue in the Old Town Square. The tour is wheelchair accessible, and strollers are welcome for infants and small children. Check your email the day before for any updates.
