The experience

Wolf's Lair sits four hours north of Warsaw in what was Eastern Prussia, a self-contained military town of over 2,000 people during the war. The complex holds more than 80 structures, including massive concrete bunkers built to house Hitler, Göring, Bormann and other high-ranking German officials. Hitler spent over 800 days here, and the site was also where an assassination attempt on his life took place in 1944. Your guide walks you through the grounds and explains the layout and history of the compound.

Treblinka II, 100km east of Warsaw, operated as a death camp for one year and claimed over 800,000 victims. The Germans destroyed the camp in 1943, so no original buildings remain. The visit begins at the museum, where you watch two short films about the Reinhard Action and the camp itself, and see a scale model of the site. From there you walk to the monument, then continue to Treblinka I, the adjacent penal labour camp, where you see the gravel quarry used for forced labour and the execution site.

The tour runs 13 hours total and includes pickup from your Warsaw location, an air-conditioned vehicle for both legs of the journey, and an English-speaking guide throughout. You cover roughly 200km of driving across the day, with the Wolf's Lair visit taking the morning and early afternoon, and Treblinka the latter half.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What is the Wolf's Lair and why was it significant during World War 2?

The Wolf's Lair (Wolfschanze) was Hitler's military headquarters, a fortified complex of over 80 buildings in the Mazury Lake District. Hitler spent more than 800 days there during the war, and it was the site of a failed assassination attempt on his life in 1944.

What will I actually see at Treblinka?

Treblinka II no longer has original buildings: the Germans destroyed the camp in 1943. You see the museum with documentary films and a model of the camp layout, walk the monument site where victims are memorialized, and visit Treblinka I, the labour camp next door, where you can see the gravel quarry and execution site.

How much of the day is spent driving versus at each site?

The Wolf's Lair is a four-hour drive from Warsaw, and Treblinka is 100km further east. Most of the morning and early afternoon is spent at Wolf's Lair. The second half of the day covers Treblinka and the museum. The 13-hour total includes both drives and visits to both locations.

Is this tour suitable if I have limited mobility or fitness concerns?

The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. At Wolf's Lair you walk the grounds with your guide. At Treblinka you walk from the museum to the monument and labour camp site. The pace is set by the group, and your guide can adjust as needed.
