The experience
The Wolf's Lair was built in 1941 as Adolf Hitler's military headquarters, where decisions about the Eastern Front and other wartime operations were made from within concrete walls deep in the forest. You'll walk through the remnants of over 80 bunkers scattered across the site, seeing the physical layout where strategy unfolded. The licensed guide walks you through the compound and explains how the space functioned during the war, grounding the history in the actual rooms and fortifications you're standing in.
On the 12-hour option, the tour extends to Mamerki Bunkers, a sprawling complex that served as headquarters for the German Land Forces Supreme Command. The site covers a huge area with bunkers, shelters, officers' quarters and a museum dedicated to the Eastern Front. You can explore on your own or follow your guide through the underground passages and see the interior of a German U-boat submarine. The day ends at Święta Lipka Sanctuary, a baroque church set apart from the bunkers: its richly decorated interior features painted walls, sculptures and famous organs that contrast sharply with the military sites.
Private transfers pick you up at your Warsaw accommodation in a comfortable van and drop you back there at the end of the day, so you don't arrange separate transport. The tour stays small (groups are kept to 25 guests per guide), and the operator asks you to wear comfortable shoes because the bunker sites have many underground routes and uneven surfaces. Check your email the day before departure for final details from Rosotravel.
