Summary

Chopin’s music in Warsaw’s Old Town with honey wine and art

You’ll sip traditional honey wine and settle into front-row seats for a one-hour Chopin concert inside Warsaw’s Royal Castle. Watch top Polish pianists bring Chopin’s music to life in Gothic surroundings, then browse local photo exhibitions before stepping back into Old Town — with the echoes of piano still lingering.

experience

What’s the experience like?

Someone hands me a glass — it’s this sweet-smelling honey wine, almost golden in the low light. I’m trying not to spill it as we shuffle into these thick-walled rooms in the left wing of the Royal Castle, right off Kanonia Street. There’s an old bell outside, and you can hear its echo if someone leans on it too hard. Our pianist (I think her name was Marta?) just gave a tiny nod before sitting down, no big intro or fuss. The bench creaked a little.

I’d never sat so close to a grand piano before — front row, they called it VIP, but honestly it just felt like being let in on something private. The air had that old stone chill, mixed with perfume and maybe candle wax? Chopin’s music started up soft and then suddenly filled everything; you could see Marta’s hands moving fast, sometimes pausing like she was listening for something only she could hear. She smiled once when someone coughed at the wrong time — not annoyed, just amused.

Afterwards, we wandered past some photo exhibitions tucked along the walls — Polish artists mostly, though I spotted a couple foreign names too. I tried to say “thank you” in Polish when we left (“dziękuję,” which Li said sounded okay), but I probably butchered it anyway. Walking back out into the square behind St. John’s Cathedral, there was this weird quiet — like the music was still hanging around somewhere up in the rafters. I still think about that last note fading out.
