The experience

The tour starts at your hotel in Wroclaw, where your private driver meets you before the 1 hour 15 minute drive to Świdnica. The Church of Peace there is the largest timber-framed building in Europe: a structure built without nails, held together by wooden joints alone. You have time to explore the church and its grounds at your own pace before the driver takes you north to Jawor, 40 km away, where the second Church of Peace stands. It follows a different design but carries the same UNESCO designation and the same craftsmanship.

Both churches were built in the 17th century when Protestant worship was restricted in the region, so they were constructed outside city walls and disguised as barns from the outside. The interiors reveal ornate wooden galleries, altars and decorative work that survived centuries. Your driver handles the route between sites and back to Wroclaw, leaving you free to move through each church without time pressure. The minivan is air-conditioned and bottled water is provided during the journey.
