The experience
Your guide meets you near the High Gate (eight minutes from the main railway station), and leads you through the Old Town's colored tenement houses, churches and embankments along the Motlawa River. The tour is built around what kids actually do: complete tasks and games that bring historical figures and characters to life as you walk. St. Mary's Basilica, the largest brick church in the world, stands as the centerpiece. Its interior holds 37 windows, over 300 tombstones and 31 chapels. You'll also see the Neptune Fountain, a 17th-century symbol of the city's ties to the sea, and the Artus Court, where merchants once gathered around a 10.64-metre renaissance tiled stove made of more than 500 individual tiles: the tallest of its kind in Europe.
The 2-hour option covers Old Town highlights and the basilica. Add a third hour and you get skip-the-line entry to the Amber Museum, housed in an old mill with interactive exhibits showing how amber forms, how it's extracted, and how it's used in medicine and art: treasures range from a prehistoric sunken lizard to a full-size guitar. The 4-hour option includes both the Amber Museum and the Maritime Culture Center's "People-Ships-Ports" interactive room, where children play with computer ship simulators and remote-controlled vessels while learning about Polish maritime life. Skip-the-line tickets come with the longer options, so you avoid queues at the door.
Your guide speaks English, German, Polish, Russian, Spanish, French, Italian, Norwegian or Swedish. Pick the language when you book. Pickup is available within 1.5 km of the Old Town if you provide your accommodation address. Otherwise, meet your guide at the designated starting point. Arrive on time, as some attractions have reserved entry slots. St. Mary's Basilica closes early on Sundays and during scheduled masses, so interior access may be limited. The tower opens daily 10:00–20:00 and costs 7–14 pln extra if you want to climb it.
