Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour: Krakow Private Transport Surroundings
Seven hours tracing the outer perimeter of Auschwitz history, from mass graves to the Death Gate.
This seven-hour guided tour from Krakow explores the lesser-known sites surrounding Auschwitz-Birkenau (memorials, execution grounds, and the camp extension) with private transport and lunch included. The tour does not enter Auschwitz I or Auschwitz II-Birkenau themselves, but instead focuses on the memorial to final victims, a mass grave of 700 prisoners shot during evacuation, the first crematorium and gas chamber, the Death Gate, and Bunker 1 and Bunker 2 in the extermination zone. A live English-speaking guide leads the full day. Hotel pickup is included in the transport option.

The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your Krakow hotel and takes you to sites most visitors miss. You'll see the memorial to the final victims of Auschwitz and a mass grave of 700 prisoners shot during the camp evacuation in January 1945. From there, the guide walks you through the camp extension: the area that housed new SS barracks, the last women's camp, and the site of the final public execution. These stops form the outer ring of the complex, each one marking a specific chapter of the camp's history.
The second half of the day moves into Birkenau itself. You'll view the first crematorium and gas chamber, the former villa of the camp commandant, and the gravel pits where clergy and members of the Polish intelligentsia were punished and executed. The guide shows you the pre-war theater later used to store Zyklon B, the Polish Ramp where the first prisoners arrived, and the Old Jewish Ramp, the main selection site for European Jews. Maps and aerial photographs from 1944 help frame what you're seeing on the ground. In Birkenau, you stand at the Death Gate and the main SS barracks, then move into the extermination zone: Bunker 1 (Red House), Bunker 2 (White House), the remains of dressing rooms for victims, and a cemetery of Soviet POWs. Lunch is included partway through the day.
The tour concludes at the Sauna building, where prisoners were disinfected and their belongings processed, and at the memorial to victims of Auschwitz-Monowitz (Auschwitz III). This final stop broadens the picture: Auschwitz was not one camp but a system of three, and the scale of the atrocities extends far beyond what most people realize. Private transport returns you to Krakow at the end of the seven hours.

Yes. Ticket types: Child (5 to 10 years); Infant (1 to 4 years).
What's the difference between this tour and the main Auschwitz-Birkenau tour?
This tour focuses on surrounding memorial sites, execution grounds, and the camp extension rather than the main Auschwitz I or Auschwitz II-Birkenau camps themselves. You see the Death Gate, the extermination zone bunkers, the crematorium, and mass graves connected to the camp system, guided by someone who can explain the historical context of each site.
How long does the tour take and what's included?
The tour runs seven hours from Krakow and includes private transport to and from your hotel, a live English-speaking guide, and lunch. You visit multiple memorial sites and key locations across the Auschwitz complex without entering the main museum buildings.
What physical fitness level do I need?
The tour requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness. You'll be walking between multiple outdoor sites and standing for extended periods while the guide explains each location.
Can I book just the transport without the guide?
Yes. One purchase option includes transport and guide together. The other option is transport only. Choose based on whether you want the guided interpretation of the sites or prefer to explore independently.
