The experience
What does a day in Manila look like when you skip the hotels and malls? You start by meeting your guide at Santa Cruz Church, then climb into a jeepney: the colorful minibus that moves most of the city. You ride it like a local does, stopping at a typical Filipino open wet market where vendors sell fish, vegetables and meat in the open air. This is where people actually shop, not a sanitized version of one.
From there you walk into the oldest apartments in town and the back alleys where people live, bathe and cook in the open. The guide shows you how daily life works in these neighborhoods, away from the bright streets and car traffic. You'll try local coffee and food as Filipinos eat it: the real version, not adapted for visitors. The whole thing takes about two hours. Afterward, the guide helps you find the safest way back to your hotel.
This is a shared tour with a maximum of ten people, so it stays small enough to move through tight spaces and stop when something catches your eye. The guide speaks English and handles all the navigation, so you don't have to figure out the jeepney system or negotiate at the market. Water is included.
