You’ll feel Lima’s energy as you glide above Costa Verde’s cliffs on a motorized paragliding flight with an expert pilot. Take in sweeping views over Miraflores and San Isidro districts, try steering if you’re brave enough, and relive it all with your own in-flight HD video sent straight to your phone.
The first thing I heard was the engine sputter — not loud, but enough to make my stomach flip as we rolled toward the edge of the Costa Verde cliffs. I could smell salt and something else, maybe fried fish drifting up from a beach stall below. Michael, our pilot, grinned and said something about “perfect wind,” which I pretended to understand. I just nodded, clutching the straps of this paratrike contraption (it’s basically a comfy seat with wheels and a big fan on the back). Never thought I’d see Lima like this.
Takeoff was smoother than I expected — one second we were rolling, then suddenly Miraflores and San Isidro were dropping away beneath us. The city looked like a patchwork quilt, all those rooftops and parks stitched together by busy roads. Our guide pointed out surfers bobbing in the gray-green water and tiny buses crawling along the highway. The air up there felt cooler, almost sharp against my cheeks. At some point Michael let me try steering for a second (don’t worry — he kept his hands close), and I probably veered left too hard because he laughed and shouted over the wind, “Easy! Like riding a bike.”
I kept thinking about how small everything looked — people waving from below, someone flying a red kite that nearly matched our canopy. Ten or twelve minutes felt both quick and weirdly long; time stretches when you’re floating between clouds and city noise. When we landed back on that dusty explanade, my legs wobbled but I couldn’t stop smiling. Later they sent me this HD video of my whole flight — unedited, so you can hear me nervously humming halfway through. Not sure if I’ll ever delete it.
