The Experience

The day starts with a simple breakfast of bread, eggs, jam, butter and coffee before heading into the Andes. You'll climb to about 4,900 meters for photographs across the mountain range, then stop to watch alpacas and vicuñas in their natural habitat—with a chance to spot Andean foxes and other wildlife moving through the high grassland. An air-conditioned vehicle carries the group through the drive, and lunch is an all-you-can-eat buffet of traditional Andean dishes at a restaurant along the route.

The centerpiece is an hour at Condor Cross, the viewpoint on Colca Canyon's rim where you walk and watch for Andean condors. A nesting site sits nearby, so it's common to see several condors flying above the canyon at once. This is the moment the tour is built around—the chance to see the sacred bird of the Peruvian Andes in its own space.
