Explore Barranco's history and art

  • Enjoy hot drink in historic house

  • Walk Bajada de Baños and see murals

The Experience

Barranco was founded in 1874 and has kept its blend of old architecture and contemporary art scene. The tour starts inside a 100-year-old house that now operates as a boutique hotel, where you'll have a cup of cacao, coffee, or tea while looking at pieces by recognized local artists on the walls around you. From there you move into the district itself—the charming older streets, the shops, the layers of history and the new things people are making here.

You'll visit Dédalo Arte y Artesanía, a gift shop stocked with creative, useful pieces. Then comes the Bridge of Sighs, where the local tradition is to hold your breath while crossing and make a wish. The walk takes you down Bajada de Baños, a steep street lined with murals by local street artists, and you'll stop at one artist's small exhibition and shop. This stretch is built for photographs—the color, the scale, the way the buildings sit on the slope.

The tour ends at a hidden viewpoint surrounded by beautiful houses, where you can see the panoramic view across Lima's bayside. You'll also pass through Barranco's main square and see the Republican-style library. The whole route is walkable for all fitness levels, and the guide will move at a pace that lets you take in each stop.
