The activity runs 2 hours with a professional driver, hotel pickup, and your choice of board included. A second board costs extra if more than one person wants to ride.

The experience

You get behind the wheel of a 4WD buggy and drive it yourself through Huacachina's dunes. The route takes you across the desert floor and up the face of the huge dunes that ring the oasis. The kind of terrain that needs a real vehicle and someone who knows how to read it. Your driver sits with you and has the experience to keep the ride safe and to show you where the sand holds and where it doesn't.

At the top of the dunes, you stop and switch to a sandboard or skis, whichever you choose, and ride back down. The company includes one board per person in the price. If two of you want to ride at the same time, a second board runs 70 soles extra. After the runs, you have time to settle and watch the sunset from the dunes before heading back.

The whole outing is 2 hours. Pickup from your hotel is included, and the driver speaks English or Spanish depending on which you need. Infants ride on an adult's lap. The activity is not recommended for pregnant travelers.
