Whale Watching Pearl Islands: Private 27ft Boat Charter
Chase humpback whales across 1.5 hours of open water to Panama's breeding grounds.
A private whale watching charter departs Flamenco Marina and cruises 1.5 hours to the Pearl Islands, where humpback whales migrate June through November to breed and give birth. The 27ft Proline is compact and agile enough to approach whales while maintaining safe distance, and your group decides how long to stay with them. Snorkeling, fishing and island hopping among Contadora, Mogo Mogo, Chapera and Saboga are all options on the same boat.

Step-by-step itinerary
Private whale watching and island activities
- Depart from Flamenco Marina
- Cruise 1.5 hours to Pearl Islands
- Watch humpback whales respectfully
- Snorkel in tropical waters
- Fish using onboard equipment
- Island hop to beaches like Contadora
The experience
Eight hours aboard a 27ft Proline means you leave Flamenco Marina and have real time with the whales once you reach them. The boat is built for this: maneuverable enough to get closer than larger vessels while still respecting the animals' space, with a shaded area and cushioned bow so you're not baking in the sun between sightings. A certified bilingual captain and deckhand run the boat and know where the humpbacks are moving. They also handle the snorkeling and fishing gear if you want to switch gears mid-day.
The Pearl Islands are where the whales actually go: humpbacks travel over 5,000 miles from both hemispheres to breed and give birth in these waters between June and November. You may also see dolphins, rays and sea turtles. Because it's a private charter, your group sets the pace: if you want to stay with a pod for hours, you stay. If you'd rather snorkel the white sand beaches of Contadora or Saboga, or cast a line, the boat pivots to that instead. Fishing gear and snorkeling equipment are on board. Drinks, water and Gatorade are included.
Bring a passport. The operator needs the number, expiry and country at booking. The boat runs in all weather, so dress for sun and spray. Hotel pickup is available for $20 per person if you'd rather not drive to Flamenco Marina yourself.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
When do humpback whales actually show up in the Pearl Islands?
Humpback whales migrate to Panama's Pacific coast between June and November to breed and give birth, making that the window when the tour runs and sightings are most likely.
How far is the boat ride from Flamenco Marina to where the whales are?
The cruise to the Pearl Islands takes 1.5 hours, so you spend the bulk of your eight hours on the water or at the islands themselves, not traveling.
Can I fish and snorkel on the same trip, or do I have to pick one?
Both are options on the same boat: your group decides what you want to do. Professional fishing gear and snorkeling equipment are both on board, and the captain adjusts the itinerary based on what your group is after.
What islands can we actually visit?
Contadora, Mogo Mogo, Chapera and Saboga are all part of the Pearl Islands archipelago and reachable on the tour. They have white sand beaches and are stops the boat can make depending on what your group wants to do.
Is the boat comfortable for eight hours on the water?
The 27ft Proline has a shaded area and cushioned bow seating, a marine stereo, freshwater rinse and a private bathroom on board, plus beverages included throughout the day.
