The Experience
The catamaran leaves Port Flamenco at 7:30am with air-conditioned and outdoor seating, crossing open ocean for 1.5 hours to reach Sunny Island. The boat ride itself is part of the day—the operator notes incredible views and marine life observation chances, and during July through September, humpback whales migrate south through these waters. Once you arrive at the private nature reserve island, the staff walks through how the eco-tour operation works, then you settle in.
The island has full bathrooms and showers, a beach club, and reserved beach seating and tables where you can relax. Lunch is served as part of the day, along with soda, bottled water and snacks. If you want to stay in the water, snorkeling is available; if you prefer the sand, beach volleyball, beach football and cornhole are set up and ready. The day is built around doing as much or as little as you feel like—swimming, sunbathing, eating and playing are all on the same island without moving between venues.
The return boat ride takes another 1.5 hours, so plan for a full 10-hour day from departure to arrival back at Port Flamenco. The catamaran's air conditioning and outdoor deck mean you can choose your comfort level on both crossings.
