Step-by-step itinerary

Jebel Harim Mountain Safari Experience

  • Ascend Jebel Harim peak
  • Visit prehistoric fossil site
  • Explore Sayh Plateau and Bedouin village
  • View Khor Najd fjord

The experience

You're picked up from your hotel in Khasab and driven into the Musandam Peninsula's raw mountain terrain in a private 4WD Sequoia that holds a maximum of 4–5 guests. The vehicle climbs toward Jebel Harim, the highest peak in the range, where the panoramic views open across the entire Hajar Mountain range and the deep valleys below. On the way up, you stop at a prehistoric fossil site where rocks are naturally embedded with millions-of-years-old shells, fish and clams from ancient marine life.

The Sayh Plateau sits at 1,100 meters above sea level and holds a traditional Bedouin village where stone-built houses and mountain agriculture show how people have lived here for centuries. From there, the route leads to Khor Al Najd, a fjord viewpoint where the rugged mountains drop to turquoise water: the kind of vista that stops a conversation. Throughout the day, you're given fresh fruits, mineral water, juices and soft drinks. On the full-day option, lunch is included.

The half-day trip runs around four hours. The full-day extends the time and deepens the experience. Your guide speaks English and Arabic, so questions about the landscape, the fossils or the local heritage get answered as you go. The tour operates in all weather, so dress for mountain conditions: temperature and wind shift with elevation.
