The experience
Three hours takes you from Tromso city center into the night landscape on snowshoes, following your guide through terrain that shifts between gentle and steep, sometimes with deep snow underfoot. You move at a pace that lets you take in the Arctic surroundings and hear about how people actually live here: the local history, the land, the rhythms of the city and the region. The guide carries the knowledge. You carry the curiosity.
When the walk reaches a hill, you switch to toboggans and speed down. After that comes the campfire (your guide sets it up, though you're welcome to help build it), where you sit with a hot drink and something sweet while listening to stories about northern lights, Arctic nature and everyday life in Tromso. The break lets you warm up and shift from moving to watching, and the fire is the still point where the night settles around you.
Transport to and from the city center is included, as are snowshoes, toboggans, hiking poles, and a guide who speaks English and stays with you the whole time. Toilets are available. You need to bring or rent warm winter clothes, boots, a woolly hat and mittens. The operator can arrange rentals if you ask ahead. Sunglasses, sun cream, a water bottle and a small backpack for extra layers are worth bringing too.
