The experience
The boat leaves from Alta and crosses the fjord at speed, heading toward Seiland's lush green mountains and the steep peaks that frame the water. Seiland holds the northernmost glaciers in Scandinavia, and the ultrabasic bedrock on the south side supports plant life found nowhere else nearby. You'll wear a thermal suit, goggles and gloves for the ride (the gear is provided), and the boat's pace means you cover ground fast enough to reach Bekkarfjord, the island's most beautiful inlet, within the afternoon.
The steep coastal mountains are a breeding ground for sea eagles and birds of prey. Seals surface in the water. The guide points out what appears and explains the landscape as you move through it. Snacks and hot coffee or tea come aboard, breaking up the 3.5 hours of travel and stopping time.

Is this one for you? This is a shared boat with a live guide, so you ride with other travelers and move at the guide's pace: the setup suits anyone who wants to see Seiland's glaciers and wildlife without steering the boat themselves. The RIB's speed and open-air exposure mean you need moderate fitness and comfort with active water travel. It's not the choice for a calm, sheltered cruise.
