Kayaking in Lofoten is a full-day paddle along the Norwegian coastline and through island channels, departing daily at 10:00 from Eggum Harbour with a professional multilingual guide. You'll use a double kayak (easier for all levels), stop for lunch on an isolated rocky island, and return after 6 to 7 hours. No previous kayaking experience is necessary, and the group stays small: between 2 and 10 people. A guide, lunch, snacks, beverages and afternoon tea are all included.

The experience

You meet at Eggum Harbour at 10:00, get a short safety talk, and paddle out into water so clear it looks Caribbean. The route follows the coastline and cuts through small channels between islands where eagles and other seabirds are common, and occasionally a seal shows up. Double kayaks make the paddling manageable for everyone, whether you've never been in one before or you have some time on the water. The guides are friendly and know the area well. They'll point out what's worth noticing and keep the group moving at a pace that works.

Halfway through, you pull ashore on one of the small rocky islands scattered across the water. This is where you eat lunch and let your arms rest before the paddle back. Snacks and beverages are included throughout the day, and if you need a vegetarian meal, let the operator know when you book.

The whole day runs 6 to 7 hours. The guide speaks English, Spanish, German or Hungarian depending on the group. Children must be with an adult, and infants sit on a lap. The operator says 99% of their guests have never kayaked before, so the activity is built for people showing up with no background at all.
