Catch fish, cook a meal, eat in the Arctic

Lofoten shore fishing and open fire cooking is a 5-hour class where you fish by sea, river, or lake depending on the day's conditions, then prepare and cook a complete meal from your catch with a local guide. The guide teaches cleaning and cooking techniques as you work. All fishing gear and licenses are provided, and the experience is limited to six participants. Children from age 8 are welcome, and guides speak English, German, or Danish.

The experience

You meet your guide and head to the best fishing location of the day: sea, river, or lake, depending on weather and what's running. After a safety briefing and a quick lesson in casting and rod handling, you're fishing. Your guide stays with you the whole time, whether you've never held a rod or you fish regularly, offering tips and assistance when a fish takes the line. The focus is on the moment itself: the water, the Arctic light, the local fishing traditions your guide shares.

Once you've caught something, the real work begins. You and the guide clean and prepare the fish together, learning the techniques as you go. Then you build a fire and cook a complete meal from what you've caught: no shortcuts, no pre-made sides. You're doing the cooking, not watching a demonstration. The guide leads the process, but your hands are in it. When it's ready, you sit down in Lofoten's landscape and eat what you made.

The group stays small, six people maximum, so the pace is relaxed and the guide can focus on each person. All fishing gear, your personal license, and the cooking equipment are included. Bring warm layers and sturdy shoes. The weather in Lofoten changes fast, and you'll be outside for the full five hours.

Yes. The experience is designed for all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced anglers. Your guide will teach you casting and handling techniques during the safety briefing, and will assist you throughout the fishing portion, whether it's your first time or you've fished for years.

What happens if the weather is bad or we don't catch anything?

The guide chooses the fishing location each day based on weather and seasonal conditions, picking the best spot: sea, river, or lake. If the catch is small, you'll still prepare and cook what you've caught. The focus is on learning the techniques and the experience itself, not on a guaranteed size of meal.

You prepare and cook a complete meal from the fish you catch over an open fire, with the guide teaching you cleaning and cooking techniques as you work. Ingredients and cooking equipment are provided. The meal is what you've caught and prepared together: a full outdoor meal, not a small tasting.
