The experience
You arrive in Lofoten with a free afternoon and the sun still high at 11pm. The kayaking starts from the operator's own harbour right at the water's edge in Reinefjord, so there's no transfer or setup. You step from the dock into the kayak. The guide meets you there, teaches you what you need to know for safety, and then you paddle out into the fjord. The route is not fixed. The guide decides it based on the group's level, the water conditions, the light and whether wildlife appears. That flexibility is what makes the midnight paddle work: some nights the group stays close to the sheltered fjord, other nights the conditions open the route toward the open sea.
The kayak, paddle, safety vest, high-quality sprayskirt and drybag are all provided. You paddle for three hours under the arctic daylight, moving through the quiet evening hours when the water is often calmest. The guide is handpicked for kayak skills, local knowledge and the ability to tell the story of what you're moving through. Safety is the foundation (the operator focuses on details and instruction), but the real point is the surprise: few places on earth have both the daylight at midnight and the water to paddle it on.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and Italian.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the midnight sun kayaking like if I've never paddled before?
No previous experience is needed. The guide teaches you what you need to know for safety and control before you leave the harbour, and the route is adjusted to the group's level. The 3-hour paddle moves at a pace that lets you enjoy the arctic light and the quiet rather than race through it.
How does the guide decide which route to take on the water?
The guide shapes the route based on the group's ability, the water conditions that day, the light, and whether wildlife appears. You might stay in the sheltered fjord or paddle toward the open sea depending on what's best for your group and what the conditions allow.
What happens if the weather turns bad during the paddle?
The operator focuses on safety and details, so the guide monitors conditions throughout. The route is flexible enough to adapt. You might shorten the paddle, stay closer to shelter, or adjust the path based on what develops.
Do I need to be fit to paddle for three hours?
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The pace is steady but not intense, and the guide adjusts to the group. If you have concerns about cardiovascular health, contact the operator before booking.
Is there a minimum age for the midnight sun kayaking?
The minimum age is 14 years old. For children under 14, contact the operator directly before booking to discuss options.
