The experience
The kayak center sits on the sheltered, sunny side of Geirangerfjord at Homlong, just a few minutes from the town center with free parking. A guide meets you there, runs through safety and paddling technique, and fits you with a life vest, spray skirt and paddle. The stable kayaks are built to turn easily, so you spend less energy fighting the boat and more time taking in the fjord from water level. A perspective you cannot get from the shore or a tour bus.
You paddle down the fjord on a circuit that brings you to the viewpoint between the Seven Sisters waterfall and the Suitor, where the guide stops so you can photograph the cascades and absorb the scale of the cliffs around you. The guide shares facts about the fjord and its geology as you paddle. How long the full loop takes depends on the group's pace and the day's water conditions. Most trips run between 3.5 and 4.5 hours.
No kayaking background is necessary. The guide handles the instruction and stays with the group throughout. What matters is energy, enthusiasm and the physical ability to sit upright in the kayak for the duration. If you have cardiovascular concerns or poor fitness, this activity may not suit you. Talk to the operator before booking.
