The experience

I didn’t expect the forest to be so quiet. We’d just left Bodo in this van that smelled faintly like coffee and wool, and our guide, Erik, kept glancing out the window like he could spot a moose by pure will. He told us “elg” is what Norwegians call them, Europe’s biggest land animal, and then laughed when I tried to pronounce it. The trees felt taller than usual (maybe it was just the low northern light), and honestly, I was surprised how much I wanted to see one up close. Or at least not too far away.
