- Meet accredited bilingual guide
- Travel to Masaya Volcano
- View sea of lava from crater edge
- Learn about Nicaraguan volcanoes
The experience
Masaya Volcano sits about an hour from Granada, and the tour begins with pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. Your accredited guide speaks English and Spanish and stays with you throughout the visit. The drive itself carries information about the region's volcanic landscape, so the learning starts before you reach the park.
Once at the crater, you walk the trails along the rim of the main crater. The lava lake that sometimes glows at night is not currently visible, so the focus is the trails themselves and the views across the volcanic landscape. Your guide provides detailed information about how Masaya formed, what makes it part of Nicaragua's volcanic chain, and what you're standing on as you move through the park. Bottled water is provided, and the trails are manageable for visitors of all fitness levels.
The whole experience runs two to three hours from start to finish. Infants can travel in a stroller or pram, and specialized infant seats are available in the vehicle if you need one. Service animals are allowed in the park.
