The Experience

The tour picks you up near the cruise port at 9:15am—a 500m walk from your ship to the Independent Tour Operator Pick Up Area. Once you reach the shop by Chaffers Dock Marina, you'll get fitted with a helmet and full instruction on how to use the eBike. The bikes are designed so that if you can ride a regular bike, you can ride an eBike; the motor makes climbing hills straightforward. There's a large car-free space to practice before the group sets off.

From the waterfront shop, you'll ride past the inter-island ferries and local boats, then head to your first stops: a Māori cultural site with nearly a thousand years of history, the iconic Wellington wind sculpture (85 feet tall, swaying with the city's famous gusts), and the Te Papa Museum on the waterfront. You'll ride along the beach on a cycle path, then put the bikes on turbo mode to climb Miramar Peninsula for the best views over Wellington and the surrounding bays. Your guide will share a Māori tale about how Wellington Harbour formed while you take photos. Much of the ride follows the coast with Mount Victoria forming the backdrop.

At the end, you can stay and explore Wellington further, or your guide will ride back with you to the ship. The tour includes a tea, coffee or ice cream at the on-site cafe, and the pace is lighthearted and focused on riding and finding viewpoints rather than a packed itinerary. Helmets and gloves or jacket (if needed) are provided, and the guide keeps the group safe throughout.

Top questions

Can I do this tour if I've never ridden an eBike before?

Yes. The eBike is easy to use if you can ride a regular bike, and your guide provides full instruction at the shop before you set off. There's a car-free practice space to get comfortable with the motor and brakes.

What's the Mount Victoria Lookout like, and how do we get there?

Mount Victoria Lookout offers panoramic views over Wellington and the surrounding bays—it's the best photo spot on the tour. You'll ride there on the eBike with the motor on turbo mode to handle the climb, so the ascent is manageable even if you're not a strong cyclist.

What happens if I want to go back to the ship instead of staying in Wellington?

Your guide will ride back with you to the original pickup point near the cruise port, so you don't have to navigate on your own.

What should I bring or wear?

Dress appropriately for the weather and bring an extra layer for Wellington's wind. Bring sunscreen in summer and your own water bottle if you can. Helmets are provided, and gloves or a jacket will be given if you need them.

Is there an age limit for this tour?

The minimum age is 13 years old. Riders under 150cm (59 inches) should note their height when booking so the bike can be adjusted properly.

How long does the whole tour take?

The tour runs 3-4 hours from pickup at the port through all the stops and back, including a rest break and time for photos at the lookout.
