The experience

The day starts at Matiatia Wharf at 9:40am, where your guide meets you with a welcome board. From there you head straight to Mudbrick Vineyard, set on a hillside with views across the Waitemata Harbour toward Auckland. You taste local wines in that setting, then move on to The Heke (a craft distillery and brewery built into four acres of gardens), where an expert walks you through how whisky and beer are made on the island, and you taste both.

After The Heke, you arrive at Allpress Olive Groves for a guided tasting of their handcrafted oils and a lesson in how olives are grown, harvested and pressed here. Then you eat lunch among the olive trees, with fresh seasonal produce and the chance to sample their award-winning extra virgin oils while you sit. The whole experience is built around tasting and learning how things are made on Waiheke, not just drinking them.

By early afternoon, your guide drops you in Oneroa Village, Waiheke's seaside hub. From there the rest of the day is yours: browse independent boutiques and galleries, walk down to Oneroa Beach, grab a coffee or a drink, or just sit and watch the water. When you're ready, the ferry terminal is a 15-minute walk downhill or a five-minute bus ride, and your guide will give you directions. You can catch the 3pm ferry back to Auckland or stay longer and take a later one.
