The Experience
You start at the GT Tasting Room inside the historic Gibbston Tavern, where you pick between a local wine tasting or craft beer from a brewery just 1km away. The guide walks you through what makes the Gibbston region known for world-class Pinot Noirs and introduces the beers locals actually drink. From there it's a short drive deeper into Gibbston to Kinross Cellar Door, where a hosted tasting lets you try from five wine producers — some of the most awarded in the region — or four local beers with tasting notes to help you read the flavours. This is where the charcuterie boards come out, so you're eating and drinking at a table rather than standing at a bar.
The final stop is Altitude Brewery at Queenstown Marina, about 20 minutes back toward town. Here you settle in with the group, order tasting flights of either boutique wines or Altitude's own craft beers, and wind down before the drive back. The whole tour takes four hours and deposits you back in central Queenstown around 7pm — early enough to grab dinner or drinks if you want to keep the evening going.
Your guide is a local who knows the stories behind the wines and beers, and the cellar door and brewery teams host each tasting. You're not rushed through; the pace is built for conversation and comparison between stops. The choice to drink wine or beer at each venue means couples or groups with different tastes can stay together without compromise.
