The instructor at iFLY Queenstown doesn't hand you a script or a safety card first. She asks if you've ever done this before, listens to your answer, then walks you through what's about to happen in a way that actually sticks. She's certified by the International Bodyflight Association, and you can tell she's done this hundreds of times, but she treats your first flight like it matters. The gear (flight suit, helmet, goggles) goes on in a small prep room, and then you step into the wind tunnel.
The first 60 seconds feels like nothing and everything at once. You're floating on a smooth cushion of air, suspended without a parachute or a plane, and your body just… responds. The instructor uses hand signals to guide your body position, and somehow you understand them even though your brain is still catching up to what's happening. Your second flight comes right after, and by then you know what to expect, so you can actually feel the difference between fighting the wind and letting it hold you. Two flights, two minutes total, but the sensation stays with you longer than you'd think.
Queenstown's iFLY sits where public transport can reach it, and the whole experience (orientation, both flights, all the gear) is built into one ticket.
