The experience
You board in Tauranga and spend the morning on the Bay of Plenty, a stretch of water with some of New Zealand's richest marine diversity. The 18-metre vessel carries you along the coastline and out to the islands where dolphins swim alongside, and where the crew spot seals hauled out on rocks, penguins diving, and, depending on the season, whales, sunfish, sharks, turtles and orca. The boat has a large open sun-deck for watching and photography, and a fully enclosed cabin downstairs if the weather turns or you want a break from the wind. The captain and experienced crew know the waters and the animals. They'll point out what they see and share facts about the Bay and the wildlife so you don't miss the moment.
The cruise is built around genuine encounters rather than a fixed itinerary. You participate by watching from the deck, camera ready. The boat gets close enough to wildlife that photographs come out sharp and detailed. Passenger numbers are kept small on purpose, so the experience stays personal and the boat doesn't feel crowded. Families travel comfortably. Infants can use specialized seats, and the vessel is wheelchair accessible. You return to Tauranga by 2pm, which leaves the rest of the afternoon free to explore the Bay of Plenty region or head inland to Rotorua.
