The experience
You board the water taxi at Kaiteriteri Beach at 10:30 am and cruise into Abel Tasman National Park for 35 minutes, passing Split Apple Rock and the Fisherman and Adele Islands where NZ Fur Seals often appear. The boat drops you at Anchorage Bay, where you leave the water behind and walk the Pitt Head loop track for roughly an hour to an hour and a half. This walk takes you inland to Te Pukatea Bay, a quieter stretch of coast the crew favors, before you return to Anchorage to meet the skipper.
At 1:15 pm you board the sailing catamaran for a three-hour sail deeper into the park and back to Kaiteriteri. The route passes secluded coves, islands, golden sand beaches and bush-clad coastline. Complimentary tea, coffee and juice are served on board. The whole day runs about six hours from start to finish, and you'll need at least a moderate level of fitness for the walk and the boat time.
