The experience

You pick up a fully charged electric Renault Twizy and follow a fixed GPS route mapped out for you: no planning required, just drive. The two-seater vehicle is open-air, so you feel the breeze as you cruise through the flower bulb region at whatever speed suits you. The audio guide narrates what you're passing in English, German or Dutch, delivering facts about the landscape and the bulbs that have made this corner of South Holland famous. GPS navigation keeps you on track through the 30km loop.

The route stops you at Keukenhof's dahlia show gardens and at a dahlia flower farm where you can park and walk among the blooms. These are the largest summer flower show gardens in Europe, and the audio guide tells you what you're looking at: the varieties, the history, why the colors matter. You set the time at each stop. The tour is built around stopping and photographing, not rushing through.

The Twizy's electric motor is quiet, so the only sounds are the guide's voice and the flowers. A deposit of €150 per vehicle is collected in advance. The vehicle carries all-risk insurance including passenger and third-party coverage, with a €500 own-risk amount per booking. You'll need a valid driver's license (at least three years held), your passport or ID, and you must be 21 or older. If your license isn't in English and you're not from Europe, North America, South America or Australia, bring an international driver's license.
