- View interactive city model projections
- Explore multimedia exhibits on Amsterdam's future
The Experience
You arrive at the Amsterdam Museum with an afternoon free or a first morning in the city, and the exhibition starts with a 15-minute presentation. A storyteller guides you through the projections and animations playing across the world's largest multimedia city model: 750 years compressed into one room, from medieval settlement to present-day Amsterdam to the city's possible futures. The model itself is the centerpiece. The projections and narration move across it, showing how neighborhoods grew, how the canals were dug, where the port expanded, what changed and what stayed.
After the presentation, you move through the rest of the exhibition at your own pace. Interactive installations and multimedia exhibits let you dig deeper into specific periods and questions about the city's future. A locker holds your bag while you explore, so you move freely through the space. The whole visit runs 30 to 40 minutes, which fits into a morning or a gap between other plans.
What’s included
- Admission to the interactive exhibition.
- locker storage for your belongings during the visit.

What does the multimedia city model actually show?
The model animates Amsterdam's geography and growth across 750 years (the medieval core, the canal rings, the harbor, neighborhoods expanding outward) using projections that light up different areas as the storyteller walks through each period and the city's possible futures.
Is this suitable for young children?
Children are welcome from age 1, and the combination of projections, animations and a storyteller's narration works for families with small kids, though the exhibition is designed for all ages.
Where is the Amsterdam Museum located, and how do I get there?
The museum is in Amsterdam, and public transportation options are available nearby. The exact address and transit directions are best confirmed when you book.
