The experience
The trek starts with a hotel pickup and transfer to Nayapul, where you begin walking along the Modi Khola River through small villages toward Jhinu Danda. From there, the route climbs steeply through forest to Chhomrong, one of the largest settlements on the trail, then continues upward to Deurali with views of the Annapurna range opening across the valley. Each night you stay in a tea lodge or guesthouse run by local families, where you eat traditional Himalayan meals and meet people who live year-round in these villages.
The fourth day is the push to Annapurna Base Camp itself. You cross several streams, pass Machhapuchhare Base Camp, and hike through Ablation Valley (a narrow corridor between the glacier and the mountain wall) before reaching the camp at 4,130 meters. The descent is steeper and longer than the climb up: the next day drops 1,600 meters to Bamboo, a hard day on the knees, followed by a trek back down to Chhomrong and Jhinu Danda. At Jhinu Danda you can soak in the natural hot springs before the final short walk through farmland along the river to Nayapul and the drive back to Pokhara.
Your English-speaking guide handles the route, pacing and logistics. The trek permit and TIMS card are arranged in advance. Accommodation, transport from your hotel at the start and end, and the shared jeep transfer to the trailhead are all included. You bring your own trekking boots and layers for the altitude and temperature swings.
