The experience

The day starts at the Walvis Bay Waterfront Offices at 8:30am for a 9am departure on the Marine Dolphin Cruise. The boat heads into the lagoon past oyster farms toward Pelican Point, where a Cape Fur Seal Colony of over 70,000 animals gathers around the landmark lighthouse. Common sightings include Bottlenose and Heavyside dolphins, flamingos, pelicans, and penguins. During August through November, Humpback and Southern Right Whales pass through. After roughly two hours on the water, you return to the Waterfront Jetty for a light lunch featuring fresh Walvis Bay oysters, sparkling wine, and beverages.

After a short break, you board a 4x4 vehicle for the Sandwich Harbour dune experience. The route begins at the Walvis Bay Lagoon to view flamingos, then crosses the Kuiseb River Delta and the Walvis Bay Saltpans toward Sandwich Harbour: a Ramsar wetland site reached via the beach when conditions allow. Multiple stops along the way offer chances for photographs and to spot desert-adapted wildlife: black-backed jackals, springbok, oryx, ostrich, brown hyena, and the fog-basking beetle and dancing spider unique to the Namib. The vehicles return after 5:30pm, timing the arrival for the golden sunset over the dunes.

Lunch with oysters and sparkling wine is served on the boat. Afternoon snacks and beverages are provided during the dune drive. Bottled water, unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks, and a glass of Champagne are included throughout. A trained, licensed professional guide leads both segments in your choice of English, Afrikaans, Dutch or German. The full outing runs 8 to 9 hours from check-in to return.
