The experience
Bagan was the capital of Myanmar's first kingdom and a center of Theravada Buddhism from the 11th to 13th century. More than 4,000 religious monuments were built during that period. Roughly 2,000 pagodas still stand today. This half-day tour takes you to four of the most significant ones: Shwezigon Pagoda, known as the most powerful temple; Thatbyinnyu Temple, the highest white stucco building in the region; Ananda Temple, considered the richest expression of Myanmar culture; and Dhamayangyi Temple, the most massive structure. Along the way, your guide explains the architectural and decorative differences between stupas and temples, pointing out the intricate stuccos and murals that make these buildings works of art.
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as is transport in an air-conditioned vehicle. You'll have purified drinking water and a towel throughout the tour. The guide speaks English and can answer questions about the history and significance of each site as you move between them.
