The Experience
The day starts with a traditional Moroccan breakfast before heading to the Kasbah, the fortress palace built by Sultan Moulay Ismail overlooking the city. From there you move through the old Medina—the maze of narrow streets where your guide steers you toward quality craft shops and markets, helping you navigate prices and find pieces worth carrying home. The Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures sits within the palace grounds, showing the layers of cultures that have passed through Tangier over centuries.
The route then heads northwest to Cap Spartel, about 12 km away, where you stand 300 meters above sea level at the northwesternmost point of Africa and watch the Atlantic Ocean meet the Mediterranean. Below the cape lie the Caves of Hercules, where the sea entrance frames a natural opening shaped like the African continent—a formation the Phoenicians are believed to have carved. You'll ride a camel on the sandy beach near the caves before heading back toward the city center.
Along the way you pass the Mohammed V Mosque, completed in 1983, and the Marshan Palace, once the seat of the Tangier International Zone's Legislative Assembly. The Jardin de la Mendoubia offers a quiet green space near the old quarter. Late in the day you return to the Medina for lunch at one of the panoramic terraces overlooking the old city—a chance to try Moroccan food while taking in views across the rooftops. Ferry tickets for the round trip are included, as are bottled water, WiFi on board, and entry to the Moshe Nahon Synagogue, the first American public property outside the United States. Your private driver and licensed guide handle all navigation and timing; the vehicle is air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible.

What is the Caves of Hercules and why is the sea entrance called "The Map of Africa"?
The Caves of Hercules sit below Cap Spartel next to the King of Morocco's summer palace and have two entrances—one to the sea and one to land. The sea entrance is believed to have been carved by the Phoenicians and forms the shape of Africa when viewed from the water, which is why locals call it "The Map of Africa."

What happens at Cap Spartel and why is it significant?
Cap Spartel is a promontory 12 km west of Tangier that rises about 1,000 feet above sea level at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. It is the northwesternmost point of the African continent, and from there you can see the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea meet.
Is the camel ride included, and where does it take place?
Yes, a camel ride on the Atlantic sandy beach is included in the tour. It happens near the Caves of Hercules as part of the day's itinerary.
