The experience

Your hotel pickup in Rabat gets you to the train station for the high-speed train to Tangier. Once you arrive, your guide meets you at Tangier station and takes you first to Cape Spartel, a promontory about 1,000 feet above sea level at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar where the Mediterranean and Atlantic converge. A 15-minute drive brings you to the Caves of Hercules, an ancient cave complex with two entrances (one to the sea and one to the land) a major stop on the Tangier coast.

From there, it's a short ride to the beach for a camel ride along the Atlantic shore. The day continues through Parc Perdicaris (also known as Armelat Forest), then to the Kasbah museum, a significant Mediterranean cultural site, and the American Legation, a historic national monument that now houses a museum, research library and cultural center. You'll pass through Petit Socco, the plaza in the Medina where Sultan Mohamed V launched Morocco's independence appeal in 1947, and see the Great Mosque of Tangier, an Andalusian-Moorish structure with green doors and white walls built in the 19th century.

After your exploration, your driver takes you back to Tangier train station for the direct train to Rabat, where a driver meets you at the station for the final transfer to your hotel. The full day runs 10 to 12 hours. WiFi is available on board, and the air-conditioned vehicle is suitable for all fitness levels. Children from age 1 are welcome.
