The experience
How do you see an endangered Bald Ibis without spending days in the backcountry? This tour routes you straight to the mouth of Wadi Massa, where the last wild population of this bird (fewer than 500 individuals on the planet) nests in Souss Massa National Park. The lagoon where the wadi meets the Atlantic is a protected refuge for migratory birds, and the contrast between the green water and the surrounding desert makes it unmissable. Your guide, speaking English, Spanish, French or German, navigates the park's tracks in a private 4x4 and stops where the animals are.
The morning focuses on the park's antelope and ostrich. You'll watch Addax herds (a species that vanished from Morocco in 1956 and now numbers only in the hundreds across the Sahara) alongside Oryx (critically endangered, last seen here in 1973), Dama gazelles that can sprint over 100 km/h, smaller Dorcas gazelles in family groups, and Red-necked Ostriches standing up to 250 cm tall. Each species has its own habitat within the park, and your guide explains what makes them rare and how the reserve protects them. The itinerary is flexible: stops and pace adjust to what you want to linger on.
After the park, the route opens outward. You'll visit Tifnit, a working fishing village where a short beach walk shows small motor boats and the Atlantic edge. Then follow a sand track along wild coastal cliffs to Sidi R'bat, where troglodyte houses carved into the cliff face shelter fishermen between trips. A tea break happens here. The Youssef Ibn Tachefine Dam appears next: a photo stop at the highest rock overlook, where a 300-million-cubic-meter lake sits in the middle of desert. Finally, you cross the dunes of the Little Sahara before heading to Tiznit, a walled town 100 km south of Agadir known for silver jewelry. A quick tour of the medina and ramparts rounds out the day. Lunch is included. Drinks you buy separately.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and German.
What is the Bald Ibis and why is it so rare?
The Bald Ibis was once widespread around the Mediterranean and symbolized splendor in ancient Egypt, but hunting, pesticide use and agricultural development nearly wiped it out. The last European colony disappeared in Turkey in the 1970s. Morocco now holds the largest remaining wild population: fewer than 500 birds in four breeding colonies, three of them in Souss Massa National Park. Seeing it here means watching one of the world's most endangered bird species in its last stronghold.
Can I see all four antelope species and the ostrich on the same day?
Yes. Souss Massa protects Addax, Oryx, Dama gazelles, Dorcas gazelles and Red-necked Ostrich in the same reserve, and your guide routes the 4x4 to find them. Each species occupies different terrain within the park, so the tour moves between their habitats. Sightings depend on the time of day and season, but the park is built around these animals, and your guide knows where to look.
How long does the whole tour take?
The tour runs 8 to 10 hours from pickup in Agadir. The morning is spent in the national park watching wildlife and visiting the Bald Ibis lagoon. The afternoon covers the fishing village, coastal cliffs, dam, Little Sahara dunes and Tiznit medina before returning to the city.
What happens at Tifnit and Sidi R'bat?
Tifnit is a working fishing village where you stop for a short walk on the beach to see small boats and the ocean edge. Sidi R'bat sits further along a sand track on wild Atlantic cliffs and is known for troglodyte houses: shelters carved into the cliff face where fishermen stay during trips out to sea. A tea break happens at Sidi R'bat, and the natural landscape there contrasts sharply with the desert inland.
What is included in the price?
Lunch, entrance fees to Souss Massa National Park, and the 4x4 with guide are included. Infant seats and child seats are available free of charge. Drinks, sodas and bottled water are not included and you pay for them separately.
