The experience
The tour departs early from the guest house as light hits the dunes. You'll walk alongside camels for two hours through the contrast of Morocco's longest oasis, greenery against golden sand, then rest midday under an acacia or palm tree with lunch. After the camels turn back, a 4x4 picks you up and drives deeper into the Sahara, stopping to gather firewood along the way. The vehicle sets you down between towering dunes at a remote camp site, far from any town.
Once the sun starts to drop, you'll learn to make sand bread the way nomadic families have for generations. A hands-on class that happens as the light turns gold over the dunes. Dinner cooks over a fire, and your hosts share traditional songs. You can sleep in a private tent or under the open sky. Either way, the night is quiet enough to hear the desert settle. Breakfast comes the next morning surrounded by dunes before you pack up and drive back to where you started.
The guide speaks English, Spanish or French and handles all the driving, so navigation and timing are settled before you arrive. Children from age two travel with the group. The 4x4 transport, all meals, and the cooking class are included in the price.
