The experience

Your guide is from M'Hamid or a nomadic family of the Sahara itself. Someone who knows these dunes as home, not as a destination. The tour starts at the basecamp just outside M'Hamid El Ghizlane, where you'll be greeted with tea and briefed on what to expect. A 4x4 jeep carries you, water, snacks and luggage along the path of the Wad Latash river, a route that reveals the desert's layered geography: tamarisk trees that appear in ancient texts, vast plains of stone, herds of wild camels moving across the horizon. You'll stop at a sacred oasis where Sahara nomads gathered in times of celebration: a place most visitors never reach.

The first night is spent at an Erg Chigaga desert camp, where dinner is included. The second morning is yours to shape: wake early to watch the sun rise over the dunes, or sleep in. After breakfast at the camp, you have free time to walk the dunes on foot before loading the jeep for the return to M'Hamid, arriving around 10 am. The whole arc (the drive out, the camp, the sunrise option, the walk back) fits inside two days without rushing.
