The experience

Your driver collects you from your Agadir hotel at 7am for a three-hour drive south to Marrakech. Once you arrive, a local guide meets you to lead a walking tour of the Medina: the old walled city where narrow streets open onto hidden courtyards, spice stalls, and centuries-old architecture. The walk lasts about three and a half hours and covers the major sites: Bahia Palace with its mosaic-tiled courtyards built for a 19th-century vizier; the Jewish Quarter, where the building styles shift noticeably; the Saadian Tombs, constructed in 1557 during the reign of Sultan Ahmed El Mansour; and the Medersa Ben Youssef school, known for its Arab-Andalusian carved plasterwork. You'll also see the Koutoubia Mosque from outside and arrive at Jemaa el-Fna square, where snake charmers, henna artists and water sellers work the crowd: a good moment to drink fresh-pressed orange juice and watch the scene unfold.

After a one-hour lunch break, your guide takes you to meet your driver for the short transfer to Majorelle Garden. This botanical garden sits as a quiet counterpoint to the Medina's density: a former residence of French designer Yves Saint Laurent, it centers on a bright blue villa surrounded by palms, bamboo and exotic plants. The garden also houses a Berber Museum. You have roughly ninety minutes to walk the grounds and explore the villa at your own pace before your driver takes you back to Agadir, arriving around 8pm.

The tour route can be rearranged to suit your preferences since this is a private group booking. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, French or German depending on what you select at checkout.

Is this one for you?The early 7am start and full-day pace (three and a half hours of walking in the Medina plus the drive time) suit travelers who want to see the major sites in one trip and don't mind an early morning. If you prefer a slower rhythm or a later departure, a half-day Medina tour might fit better.
