The experience

The tour departs Marrakech at 8:30 AM on day one, climbing the Tichka Pass toward Ouarzazate and the Draa Valley. By midday you're in Agdz, where a stop at the Kasbah of Tamnougalt sits above the valley floor: a mud-brick fortress that shows how trade routes once moved through here. That night you stay in a guest house in Tamnougalt, with dinner included.

Day two takes you deeper into the valley toward Zagora, where you eat lunch with a local family in Tamegroute and walk through the village before heading into the desert proper. The dunes of Erg Chigaga rise ahead, and you spend the evening around a fire listening to darboukas, the local drums, before sleeping in a nomadic tent. This is the night the landscape changes completely: no walls, no electricity, just the rhythm of the desert. Day three starts with a camel ride through the dunes and a visit to a nomad's encampment before you return to a traditional hotel in Ouarzazate for the night.

The final day reverses direction toward Marrakech, with a stop at Ait Ben Haddou (the famous kasbah complex of stacked clay buildings), where you have lunch before arriving back in the city by late afternoon. Throughout the four days, your private driver and guide handle all transport and timing. Half your meals are included, and the bivouac and riads are arranged. Children from age one are welcome, and the camel ride and desert camp are the moments most travelers remember.
