The Experience

I didn’t expect the drive out of Marrakech to feel so different so quickly. One minute it’s all city sounds and scooters, then suddenly you’re watching the red earth fade into green valleys and the Atlas Mountains. Our driver, Hassan, pointed out tiny villages clinging to the hillsides — I kept losing track of which direction was east because everything felt new. We stopped for tea at a Berber house; honestly, I still think about that bread with honey. The room smelled like woodsmoke and mint — not something you can bottle up.

There was this moment when we reached the viewpoint over the Ourika Valley — everyone went quiet for a second. You could hear goats somewhere below, and even though I tried to snap a photo, it just didn’t catch how open it felt. Later we visited an argan oil cooperative; I tried grinding a few kernels (not as easy as it looks). The women there laughed with us and explained how important this work is for their families. It made me look at every little bottle differently.
