The Experience

I still remember the way the sky looked — this weird, blue-grey that slowly turned gold while we waited for the balloon to fill. We stood around in the chilly morning outside Marrakech, hands wrapped around tiny glasses of mint tea, and I kept glancing at the basket thinking, “Are we really going up in that?” Our pilot, Youssef, joked about his “lucky hat” and told us not to worry. The actual lift-off was quieter than I expected. I tried to say thank you in Arabic but probably mangled it; everyone laughed anyway.
