The experience
The tour starts at the Jewish cemetery and the Mellah (the historic Jewish Quarter built in the 15th century), where your guide walks you through the community's history in Chefchaouen. From there you move into the Chefchaouen Medina itself, where the narrow streets painted in shades of blue create the sense of walking through a maze. Place Outa Hammam, the old city's central square, anchors the next stop. It was a military gathering place in the 15th century when the Emir and his soldiers met there to plan defenses against Portuguese attacks.
The tour ends at Ras el-Maa, the springs and laundry area where local women wash clothes using traditional methods. You'll see the water flowing and the daily rhythms of the community at work. Fatima Habte, a Moroccan Jewish heritage researcher, leads the entire journey and provides the historical context that ties each stop together. The guide is available in English, Spanish, French or Arabic, and pickup is arranged for you.
