The Experience

You notice it first through the window—somewhere past Midelt, the green fizzles out and the land starts breathing dust. Our driver Simo hummed along to old Chaabi songs, tapping the wheel as we curved through villages. We stopped for tea in Ifrane (it really does look like a Swiss postcard), then Azrou where monkeys darted between cedar trees—one tried to steal someone’s snack, which broke the ice in our van.
