The experience

You arrive in Merzouga with an afternoon free. Your guide meets you at the rendezvous point, or you drive your own vehicle and park free for the duration of your stay. Either way, you mount a camel with an experienced driver and trek leisurely through the dunes as the sun drops toward the horizon, stopping to photograph the light on the sand. The camp appears as evening settles in.

At the deluxe Berber-style camp, you're welcomed with mint tea, then seated for dinner in a canvas dining tent. After the meal, the campfire becomes the center of the night: the flames flicker against the dark sky while you search for stars and constellations. Your private tent waits nearby, fitted with a real bed, ensuite bathroom with shower and sink, and the quiet of the desert beyond the canvas walls.

Dawn breaks over Algeria and casts light across the dunes. You watch the sunrise, return to the tent or the camp for a traditional breakfast, and then choose your next move: try sandboarding on the slopes, wander and photograph, or simply rest. When you're ready, your guide arranges your return to Merzouga (either by camel again or by 4x4 vehicle, whichever you prefer), and drops you at your meeting point or accommodation by late morning.

Is this one for you?Choose the Standard Camp if you want the core overnight experience at a lower price, or upgrade to the Deluxe Camp for enhanced comfort and amenities. Both include the same camel trek, meals and guide. The difference is in the tent and camp facilities. If you're uncertain about camel riding, book the 4x4 option at checkout and travel by vehicle instead: the sunset arrival, the night under stars, and the sunrise remain the same.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish and French.

What's included in the overnight stay at the Berber camp?

Your accommodation is a private deluxe tent with ensuite bathroom (toilet, shower, sink), dinner in the dining tent, breakfast the next morning, and the camel ride with an experienced driver both ways. Drinks and gratuities are separate.

Can I drive my own vehicle to the meeting point instead of arranging a transfer?

Yes. You can drive to the designated meeting point where free parking is provided for the entire duration of your stay at the camp. Your guide will meet you there and arrange your camel trek from that spot.

Do I have to ride a camel both ways, or can I return by vehicle?

The camel trek to the camp at sunset is part of the experience, but on the return journey you choose: camel or 4x4 vehicle, depending on how you feel and what you want the second morning to be like.

What time does the tour start and when do I get back to Merzouga?

You meet your guide in the late afternoon, trek as the sun sets, and spend the night at the camp. The next morning you watch the sunrise, have breakfast, and return to Merzouga by late morning, depending on whether you choose camel or 4x4 for the journey back.

What if I'm not comfortable riding a camel?

You can arrange air-conditioned 4x4 transportation instead of the camel trek to reach the camp. This option is available when you book and lets you experience the desert and the camp without the camel ride.
