The experience
The tour leaves Marrakech and climbs through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n'Tichka Pass, dropping into Berber villages and valleys before reaching Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed kasbah famous for its historic architecture and film locations. You spend the first night in a hotel in Dades Valley, waking to the valley's rock formations and canyon landscapes. On day two, the route follows the Todra Gorge, a canyon carved between high cliffs, then continues south into the Sahara Desert, where you board a camel for a sunset trek across the golden dunes before settling into the luxury desert camp in Merzouga for the night.
Day three is built around the desert itself: sunrise over the dunes, a walk through Berber settlements, and a visit to Khamlia village, known for its Gnawa music tradition and local culture. The final day heads back north through Ouarzazate, the gateway town and cinema hub, then climbs back over the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Throughout the tour, a licensed local guide who speaks English, French, or Arabic leads the group. Air-conditioned transport handles the driving, and your hotel or riad in Marrakech arranges pickup and drop-off.
Accommodation splits between two nights in hotels (Dades Valley and Merzouga) and one night in the luxury desert camp, so you experience both settled comfort and the desert under stars. Meals follow Moroccan tradition, with dinners prepared locally. The tour suits all fitness levels, and specialized infant seats are available for families traveling with young children.
